Korean writers are angry with the Myanmar military's inhumane slaughter of its innocent citizens.

We offer the most stern warning that there should no border or time limit for punishment against the slaughterers.

¡°The Myanmar military will protect the people and achieve democracy.¡± The paradoxical truth of the bloodshed in Myanmar lies in this single sentence spoken by Supreme Commander Min Aung Hlaing, who played the leading role in the coup on March 27. The violence-resorting military wielded guns and then corrupted the language. On February 1, 2019, the NLD (National League for Democracy) led by national advisor Aung San Suu Kyi formed a civilian government with more than 80% support in the general election. Then, the military, failing to secure national support, staged a coup timed for the inauguration ceremony of the second civilian government. Their motives were falsely alleged to judge the fraudulent election, but there was no evidence at all for that.

Myanmar has been a country ruled by soldiers for nearly 60 years since the military coup in 1962, unprecedented in the history of world politics. Far from the role of protecting their own people, the military have been a warlord who monopolized all markets including major industries, banks, and other areas. There have been evil laws that could not exist in a normal country, mandating that 25% of the seats are to be allocated to the military, and the military has appointed the defense and interior minister, and the commanders of each army division. When these wrongful practices were on the verge of being thwarted by the democratically-elected government, the military launched the illegal coup that aimed to nullify the role of a civilian party with majority seats. It goes without saying that the ultimate goal of the coup was to maintain the permanent military grip of power.

With the stigma of being one of the poorest countries in the world, the people of Myanmar have been plagued by the double hardship of poverty and repression, while its military has capitalized on their interests exclusively for more than 60 years with the threat of guns, resulting in the annihilation democracy. The number of Myanmar citizens officially slaughtered by the military over the past two months has hit 510, and disappearances, detentions, and injuries of the innocent civilian protesters combined will increase the number of victims. The military also had the infamous history of slaughtering 3,000 to 4,000 citizens in 1988 also. Children of 88 generation at the time - young men and workers now - are on the front line of protest, putting their unarmed lives on the line, and are crying for the establishment of democracy and the end of the unlawful military government. With a will written on their wrists, the protesters are struggling in the streets of hell where merciless bullets and grenades are flying out of nowhere.

About 40 of the victims of this protest are children. In this sublime and blood-soaked scene, we cannot but look back at Gwangju in May of 1980, April of 1960, and March of 1919 in Korea with teary eyes. Witnessing the indomitable resistance and sacrifice of the citizens of Myanmar, we cannot fail to stand to meet the great history that we have achieved through fighting and enduring and we rediscover familiar faces in a mirror in Myanmar. How can we avoid feeling the anger and pain from a commiseration?

We are relieved that the Korean government declared sanctions such as a ban on exports of military supplies and new exchanges in the field of national defense and security, and the National Assembly of Korea made a resolution with the consent of all participants, regardless of the political parties. Although, sadly, Korean literary groups cannot stand close to Myanmar's democratic citizens physically, we are in total agreement that what we should do is tell the truth, remember their sacred dream and share their courage. Therefore, today we, as earthlings who share everyday breath, manage to hold back our tearful heart, gather together and demand in the strongest word possible as follows;

-First, the Myanmar military should immediately stop the massacre of citizens.

-Second, the governments of China, Russia, India, who have been lukewarm in condemning the slaughter of Myanmar military forces, should immediately participate in international sanctions and condemnation.

-Third, the international community, not obsessed with their own national interests, should immediately and actively intervene in this situation, sanction the Myanmar military on the basis of universal love for humanity, and cooperate to establish a policy to guarantee a peaceful transfer of power to civilian government in Myanmar.

-Fourth, the Korean government should take effective and subsequent sanctions and form a special committee at the level of the National Assembly.
